DAW Remote HD is a DAW(Digital Audio Workstation) software controller just like your hardware control surface. Instead of getting stuck in front of your computer to compose, record, and produce music/audio, you can use your iPad with DAW Remote HD to control DAW functions anywhere in your studio wirelessly. Why? Because lets face it, wires suck!
(Well, if you dont mind, it also supports USB/MIDI cable)

DAW Remote HD supports HUI protocol and Mackie Control protocol and compatible with both MAC and Windows. It works with almost every DAW softwares. We provide over 10 default layouts which are specially designed for the most popular DAWs respectively.

Moreover, You can modify the layouts as you wish or even customize a new one! You can also share your customized layouts with others.

DAW Remote uses Network MIDI with Apple Bonjour over WIFI network and Ethernet, you DONT NEED to install any softwares or drivers in your Mac to enable it. For Windows user, you should install rtpMIDI to enable MIDI Network function.

By using DAW Remote, you can:
1. Forget about messy complex-functioned studio controller, focusing on your inspiration.
2. Easy to control tracks.
3. Get creativity in an environment away from the computer
4. Remotely control your DAW softwares from onstage in live performance without messy cable runs.
5. Customize your own layouts to do what exactly you want.
6. All functions just like hardware control surface.

Pros and cons of DAW Remote HD app for iPhone and iPad

DAW Remote HD app good for

Doesnt get much better than this. The author has created comprehensive DAW decks that work like a charm and offer themselves seamlessly to your workflow. I use it for Sonar, with the provided layout, but also for Samplitude Pro X with the super-functional Mackie Control layout. Its just super. The intelligence behind this is amazing. I now take my pad over to my drum set and control me recording transport without having to go to the PC keyboard. I walk around the studio to various instruments and control the transport, levels and all track functions from my pad. FREEDOM AND FUNCTION, when it connects. Keep your rtpMIDI program updated! I would have paid $15 for this, or more.
The software does what a HUI-controller can do - so it does what the developer writes. I used it with ProTools X and Logic under Lion (10.7.4) - and it does it far better than i expected (i tried it with a MacBookPro and a MacPro). Even over WiFi it´s quite responsive (MIDI instead of WiFi works even better if you have the additional MIDI-hardware for your iPad). You can control/move several fades at once, write and change automation (-modes) without any problem. The setup is easy - also because the manual has all information you might need and all explanations are perfect. For me it´s great for „production while traveling“ instead of some more hardware-controllers - a iPad and a Mac is with me anyway…;-) Do not expect to edit lots of PlugIns in ProTools because just to reach the parameters you want to edit can be a challenge - but that´s the HUI-protocol and the developers of the „DAW Remote HD“ cannot do anything to improve that (so far as i know). I hope some day (the sooner the better) Xiao Yixiang can develop a iPad-remote with the Artist-Mix (AVID) protocol (if possible) - i´ll buy it immediately and know lot´s of people who would do as well!
Beautiful interface, works really well. It was ridiculously easy to set up with my Mac and Logic. Easily one of my favorite and most used apps right now.
Ottima con DP 7.24! Mi piacerebbero dei VU meter un po più lunghi. Leggera latenza. Working fine with DP 7.24. I should like long VU meter. It has a little latency.

Some bad moments

I was really excited about this app when I encountered it, but that enthusiasm quickly faded, unfortunately. Despite following all the instructions, as well as going through all the troubleshooting info, I was never able to get it to connect to Logic Pro. Unfortunately, it turned out to be completely unusable for me.
This is very easy to setup and it save a lot of space on my desk.
App looks promising but fails to deliver. Main problems are some awkward latency and repeated crashing. I tried it with ableton live and logic pro 9, app seems most stable in mackie universal mode. The lag only happens on some controls and doesnt seem to stay synced, making it unusable for pro use. This app could be awesome if it gets ironed out, but as it stands its competitors cost less and work better.
This is a first version so its okay, its not great and here is why. A) The interface and functions are a little confusing and not well documented B) When you move certain knobs they go crazy and the values are all over the place C) I like the look, but the as far as being usable, its a little questionable Plusess: No separate app Latency was okay, Im not sure what the other poster meant. It was responsive Minuses: Not well thought out design, needs improving For a 1.0 app its impressive, but I would like to see more improving and DOCUMENTATION IS A MUST. Otherwise good start
This is an excellent app and a great alternative to carrying around additional equipment. My iPad goes everywhere with me anyway! A slick, great looking interface that functions flawlessly. I easily connected to Cakewalk Sonar 8 through Windows and was controlling wirelessly within 5 minutes. Id highly recommend DAW Remote HD!
I love this app I use it with reason 6 and it workers great with all the functions I need to control instruments and channels of the ssl. Mixer great !
